American Bass Challenge sinks its hooks into the GBA with an offering of 20 fishing locales on five lakes, three gameplay modes, and a tackle box full of eight types of lures (spinner, swisher, minnow, rubber jig, worm, frog, crankbait, and spinnerbait). Features include more than a half dozen hook-retrieval methods for diversity in fishing styles, boat movement, water temperature fluctuations, changeable weather conditions, a depth finder, a tournament-mode livewell that holds up to five bass, and a track of record catches by weight and type of fish. Locales range from open water, marinas, and bridges to dams, rocks, reeds, and even a sunken ship.
Quick Fish mode provides randomly generated fishing spots for instant action with no need to move the boat or select a lure. Tournament mode requires catching the most total weight in bass during a specific time limit, with advancement through stages if you finish within the tournament's official prize rankings. Practice mode initially offers only a single lake, with others becoming available when unlocked in Tournament mode. Up to four players can compete head-to-head via a GBA link-cable hookup. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
