There is an ancient legend from the early days of the Empire that states that the land was saved from dragons. The hero who saved the land was a fifth child of a king who was also a fifth child. Now, any person who is a fifth child of a fifth child is given the honorary title of "dragonsbane." Since dragons no longer exist in the land, someone who is titled a "dragonsbane" is not expected to go out and fight dragons. Instead, they are given dangerous and important missions to serve the kingdom.
In Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm the player takes on the role of a fifth child who is also the child of a fifth child. As the hero, players can select to play as one of two characters. One is Cynric, a sword wielding knight, and the other is Aeowyn, a sorceress. Evil now threatens your land as the Dragon Lord has arrived, and he is not alone. Various creatures will stand in your way, including giants, basilisks, lizardmen, trolls and insectoids. Set forth, mastering the ways of such weapons as the sword, mace and axe, and destroy the forces that bring chaos.
Levels are set in three primary areas: a forest, swamp and mountains. Each area contains five levels resulting in a total of 15 game levels. Locations to explore will be featured both indoors and outdoors. Wandering throughout those locations will be more than 30 different creatures that are part of 15 varied enemy types. There are also power-ups to be found and 22 spells to be learned. Spells allow the user to heal themselves, combat the enemy as well as overcome the challenges that await them.
Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm makes use of Treyarch's real time human motion engine called VSIM. The VSIM performs character movements by calculating mathematical equations so that the developers do not need to rely on motion capture animation. This allows the gameplayer to have direct control over every movement their three-dimensional character. In effect, the user is creating their own moves and combinations. ~ Jonathan Sutyak, All Game Guide
