Platform: Commodore Amiga CD32 Publisher: Psygnosis Release Date: 1994 Genre: Shooter |
Microcosm is one of the "founding fathers" of the full motion video (FMV) game play programs. By that, it is a game in which FMV makes up the majority of the actual game, and your ship follows at the pace set by the game itself.
Set inside the body of corporate mogul Tiron Korsby, your micro-submergible vessel is on a mission to stop another ship within his body. The opposing ship's mission is to reach the brain of Mr. Korsby and control his mind. Once the player has set a navigable course through the body, the vessel will begin it's journey.
Enemies throughout the body are mainly composed of natural defenses found within a human such as T-cells and the like. Using various weapons, your job is to navigate the vascular system to safely reach your target. There are five "levels" which take place in various parts of the body, including the vascular system, bone, brain, etc. And not all of these levels are navigated using the micro-submergible. You will even use your suit for part of the mission, leaving the submergible all together.
This is a single player game that uses fractile equations in order to render the scenery quickly enough to run on the CD32. It features a soundtrack by Rick Wakeman, and offers increased performance for the digital sound used if the CD32 is used in conjunction with an Amiga computer that is compatible with the system. ~ Andy Slaven, All Game Guide
