Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System Publisher: Nintendo of America, Inc. Release Date: December 1990 Developer: Technos Japan Corp. Genre: Sports UPC: 045496730130 |
Part of Technos' "Nekketsu" series in Japan, Nintendo renamed this humorous soccer game as Nintendo World Cup for American audiences and released it as one of the flagship titles for the NES' four-player adapter. Taking a non-serious attitude toward the sport, the game features an overall visual and gameplay style that will be familiar to players of Technos' River City Ransom and Super Dodge Ball. In an unusual twist, you always control the same player, but you're able to give orders to your teammates to shoot, pass, tackle and dive. You also set your team's strategy before the match. The game's unorthodox approach might be an acquired taste, but it's worth a look for its distinct style and four-player capabilities. The game was also included in the Super Spike V'Ball/Nintendo World Cup Soccer combo cartridge that shipped with the NES Sports Set. ~ Skyler Miller, All Game Guide
